I always enjoy a time of reflecting at the end of the year and this morning I'm thinking back to some of my favorite moments in the arts:
* hanging and admiring a new painting by good friend Beverly Key (who I featured last year) that fits perfectly in our den and looks as though it's always been there. The painting is an abstract but we see at least three deer hiding amongst trees, brush, and an azalea bush--much like they do in our back yard.
* sitting beside my husband and my parents at Les Miserables and experiencing that incredible music again
* watching many stirring moments in Big River, performed by Theatrical Outfit at the Balzer Theater in Herren's, but especially when Jim is "reading" Huck's palm and sees "considerable joy, considerable sorrow" ahead for them
* watching my daughter's face and hearing her laugh during "It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play", also at the Balzer, and seeing her go from actor to actor for autographs afterward
* reading Little Women with her this summer
There are many more but I'm going to stop for now. What were some of your favorite moments with the arts this year? I'd love to hear about them.

What a great idea for reflection LeAnne!
Here are some that come to mind for me ...
* watching Wall-E with my 5 year old son Jack, and listening to his take on the heart of the film afterwords. It was great to see a story well told connecting with my son
* listening through "Everything That Happens Will Happen Today" by David Byrne and Brian Eno. And then doing it again.
* listening to Nigel Goodwin speak on the Kindling's Muse podcast
* watching The Diving Bell and the Butterfly with my wife and discovering there is more than one way to tell a story on screen.
* reading the Chronicles of Narnia to my children at night
* watching "Lemony Snicket's Series of Unfortunate Events" again this Christmas and falling in love with it's visuals all over again.
* improvising with local musicians at our community Open Mic on Saturday Nights.
* putting together a fantastic art and music experience with my local church community - in my neighborhood.
Whew - it's great to think back on this stuff. These moments have such a special place in my heart.
1. My wife and I are reading some of our favorite books to one another and she is reading LITTLE WOMEN to me. I have to admit, I love it.
2. Watching my oldest son grow in his artistic abilities. He is really quite good.
3. Making a decision to learn how to draw, something I have always wanted to do, and getting my first sketch book and pencil set.
4. My oldest son and I reading Beowulf together and discussing it at length.
5. Visiting the Museum of Appalachia in TN and experiencing all of the delightful folk art and history there.

We loved Wall-E! And Narnia, of course, and Nigel is a a good friend. I haven't listened to the podcast, though. I need to put that on my list of things to do.
